The fly ( a modern day parable )

THE FLY
This was written by a lovely lady from my poetry group please share your thoughts and likes so we can encourage her to do more
thank you

I lay in bed and as I prayed I became aware of a small fly on the bedroom window. I watched as he struggled to propel himself towards the top of the pane. Vertical ascent was obviously too difficult for him, but patiently and painstakingly I saw him zig zag his way upwards. At the end of each stage he would stop, as if to catch his breath and renew his energy before entering into the next strenuous stage of his difficult journey.

Despite his problems he continued undaunted although progress was slow and energy expended great. He didn't give up. "Good for him!" I thought, as I perceived his strength of character. (If indeed an insect can be said to have character!) Then all of a sudden, without a word of warning or a backward glance, my little friend propelled himself away from the glass, thrust out his wings and took to flight. And oh what a different picture he now gave. Instead of a struggling, perilous mountaineer, struggling to achieve his purpose, he now effortlessly and gracefully soared upwards. His progress now was less like a mountain climber inching his lonesome way up a sheer precipice, but more like a sailor in a beautiful yacht being blown towards its destination by the force of a powerful wind.

It's strange, but I learnt a great deal from my early morning observations. (Isn't it amazing how God can use something as simple as a fly on a window to teach us new truths about Himself?) You see I was congratulating that fly for his tireless struggle. Cheering him on if you like! He wasn't going to give up. He was one of life's winners! But actually, although he was putting on a brave face, he was really rather foolish. You see all the while he endeavoured to reach his target by the power of his six small legs; he was carrying a secret aid, his wings! He tried to walk to the top when all the time he had within him the ability to fly there, effortlessly.

If a man was to jump from an aeroplane with a parachute strapped to his back, but fail to pull the string, we would have little sympathy with his subsequent downfall. My fly was very much like that. He had the equipment, but refused to use it.

Then I got to thinking about my own life. How I struggle sometimes just to keep my head up, meet deadlines, balance money, and please those around me. Just to survive in this life sometimes seems like climbing a mountain. Teetering forwards, slipping back a bit, hauling ourselves on with every ounce of energy we can muster. Then often falling into bed at the end of the day totally exhausted! And don't we love those who seem to take the most effort getting the job done? Those martyrs who just won't give up until everything is perfect. We treat them like heroes, encourage them, cheer them on, and help to mop their tired brows with our praise and adoration.

BUT it doesn't have to be like that!

Just like my insect acquaintance, we too have hidden reserves which we can turn to. And again like him we would be better to turn to them first, before we try to cope alone, before we exhaust ourselves in the effort of self propulsion.

Our God, The creator, The Almighty, is with us. He is waiting to leap to our assistance. Not grudgingly as if it was going to put Him out in some way, or stop Him doing something He would rather do. In fact rather than sitting placidly waiting for us to call on Him, He humbled Himself and became like us. To experience our troubles, to know how difficult it is sometimes just to cope with day to day living, He came and allowed Himself to suffer far more than we will ever have to. At the hands of that which He had created He was teased, taunted, abused, rejected. He was homeless, penniless, friendless. Then eventually, after everyone had turned against Him, He was killed. All that He faced for the privilege of knowing how to help us when we call.

Oh how He longs to help. How His heart must ache when He sees us struggle. Can't you hear Him saying He wants to help? Can't you see Him showing you His hands? "Look! This is what I suffered so I could help you my child." He whispers. He wants to help. NO He longs to help.

What will He do? He will stoop down, whisper words of comfort in your ear, and carry you clear of that which is causing you concern. He will take you out of the front line and refresh you! Then He will show you the situation from His perspective, an eternal perspective. And finally He will help you to deal with whatever it is that has troubled you.

Watch and see Him smile as He observes you gliding through the opposition instead of pushing and pulling, and being knocked about on every side.

Now can you see? Now can you understand? Just like the fly, we too have wings! How long will we struggle before we leap away from the glass, thrust our wings wide, and trust ourselves into the arms of our loving saviour?

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall:

But those who hope in The Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 41:29-31

Oh the sorrow of the cross
Oh the beatings he endured
The humiliation so deep and piercing
How can I stand and not be moved

Oh my Jesus my precious Saviour
So deep are the wounds within my soul
But you oh Lord have known them all
You bled and died for me

Beaten and scourged for our transgressions
Who can know the pain you felt
Walking the road to Calvary
Weak and in pain still you walked

To the hill of Golgotha
To cruel nails in hands and feet
But still you endured it all for me
Then at the last cried father forgive

Mary standing at the cross cries
Oh my child meek and mild
Oh the pain she must have endured
To see her child  die in agony

Who can understand the depths of sorrow
That Jesus our Saviour endured
But he alone was willing
To lay down his precious life

So heavenly Father
We your children here on earth
Lay down our lives and follow Jesus
To the cross of Calvary

We take up the cross
No matter what it entails
As a sacrifice of worship
To Jesus the Saviour of the world

There is only one you. You are unique, you are not the same as everyone else, you have had a different upbringing, and home influences. Although people have had similar experiences they have not been through exactly the same, so there will be different feelings, attitudes and thoughts etc.
God created each one of us in our mother’s womb, he knitted us together and interwove our personalities and talents and everything that made us who we are today. He gave us different friends and family and experiences and influences.
So therefor we can’t look at others people and say we wish we were someone else because it’s just impossible, we can let them influence us for the better but we can never become them
So therefor we cannot look at other people and say that they are better than us and if we were more like them that God would love us more and be more pleased with us
God has a plan for each one of us, that is individual to us and nobody else can do what God has called you to do. He takes your past and your experiences and takes all the bad things that have happened and turns them into good if we will only trust him and submit it all to him daily
He can use us as individuals to help and encourage someone who is going through the same thing. He knew us before we were even conceived so he knew what people we could help and influence and he also knew what people would help and influence us.
So don’t think God cannot use you or think to be like a certain person to be any use to God, he takes us just as we are in the situations we are in and are going through
You are unique and special in the eyes of your loving father, allow those unique qualities and the love of Christ to sink deep into your heart and change you and give you a goal and a purpose that only you can have
For the greatest goal and purpose we have is to bring the kingdom of God into this world by sharing the gospel with people and baptizing them in the name of Jesus

I was resting in bed thinking about getting up when I saw myself in a dark pit
Sadness, frustration, fear, anger and many more things can send us into a pit
That is when we have some choices to make

One would be to curl up in the fetal position and give up trying all together.
This would have a devastating effect on the people who love and care for us
It would help for a while but in the end we would shrivel up through lack of light and warmth

The other option would be to stand on our feet and look up out of the pit
And wish and pray and fret and moan  we can see the answer but we just stand there and look out
This is ok but we would get no where fast
We need to take action to get out of a pit

The third  option is that we actually start trying to get out of the pit by our own strength
We climb and claw at branches and twigs and maybe friends and family
But more often then not we fall back down
Because at the end of the day other people are only human too

But finally we come to our senses with the fourth option
And as we look up a light lighter the sun comes shining into our pit
And a voice calls out I love you my child can I give you a hand
And a hand reaches out and all we have to do is take it
And receive Love and peace and joy once again

Sooo if we are in a pit what would we do today
If anyone is in a pit today please don't think im having a go
Or thinking that you are weak
But I know that my Jesus is able to help
And bring you saftly to the light of the day
